University of Central Lancashire

Ellis Elizabeth Johnson opened the Central Lancashire show with a black and white collection with fitted shapes juxtaposed with frothy frills.

Jessica Thompson. I absolutely adored this collection! The colours were perfect full of fun cartoony prints featuring trompe l'oeil drummer boy, dancing monkey and birds mixed with marbled colours.
Photographs found at Catwalking.com.

Rochelle Foley. Beautiful complimentary tones of nude, pink, yellow and purple. Ruffles of satin and sheer fabrics worked well together. Most striking was a full length ruffled dress which I managed to snap ^ above! Love this collection it had the sweetest touch of whimsical innocence.

Duong Nguyen really caught my attention with sketchy prints mixed with nude pieces. The cut of the garments made beautifully tailored pieces and the colour pallet was just very me!! hehe!
The collection started with half tailored jacket mixed with half a flowing ball gown in silver grey tones. The whole collection had elements of random pattern pieces and juxtaposed garments and asymmetry.

I really liked this collection and I think the mixture of garments created a very elegant outcome!

Sara Wadsworth. When this collection came down the catwalk the Union Jacks on the audiences seats made sense. A London themed collection with graphic imagery of Big Ben and the London Eye on floaty sheer fabrics made for a sophisticated and elegant collection in greys, yellows and greens.
Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

'Who are you wearing?'

'Why it's Holly Stone'

These are the beautiful dresses my fellow uni chum and talented textile designer made. Holly Stone uses photographic and painted techniques to manipulate flower imagery and combine it with a touch of whimsy that I just love!! From bold photographic blurred flowers in bright oranges and purples to sweet paper mobiles with flowers and dolls chairs. Her fabric swatches are just perfect! I predict great things for her in the future judging from the degree of interest her swatches developed at GFW!

What do you think?

Check out her website here.

Also we got our selves snapped at the River Island stand - do vote for us it is very good coverage for the dresses!! :) myself, Holly and I, Holly.

Thank you!!

Much Love FF xx

Just a Little Note

Hello all!

I went to London this week!! I was at Graduate Fashion Week on the Sunday and Wednesday and in between had a lovely time with my extended family :)

The next few posts will be running along a Graduate Fashion theme.... I only went to four shows but I will be filling you in!

One of the shows was the UWE one so I will probably be a tad bias but I hope you will forgive me!

Stay tuned

Culture Candy

Thank you to Culture Candy for attending the show and for writing this wonderful article....Thank you for the review of my work!

Frances Poulton’s work stood out amongst the other collections that were presented for her use of surface pattern design. Whereas the majority of the young designers on show appeared to have chosen to focus upon the structure of their garments Poulton implemented repeat patterns to great effect. The designs were inspired by some research undertaken at Holkham Hall and as a result these patterns were combined with hand stitched tapestry and soft fabrics. A clean and restrained palette comprised of large swathes of white, with muted shades of blue and red, clearly referenced the resplendent grandeur of Holkham Hall creating a contemporary look without ever being in fear of regressing to that bygone era in which the hall would have been at its peak. Ultimately Poulton has managed to create a collection that retains an essence of classicism whilst managing at the same time to be forward thinking.

The Show 22/5/10

This is my collection. A focus on illusion of drape and inspiration originating from Holkham Hall. I am really pleased at how this looked going down the catwalk - even thought back stage was hectic!!!
